Upholding the Pursuit of Excellence in Healthcare

We are pleased to present before you the Award Special issue of your favourite magazine. It captures the spirit and commitment with which we organised Double Helical National Health Awards 2018 at a glittering ceremony held in the heart of Delhi. It was a star-studded evening graced by a high profile gentry including luminaries and from medical, social, philanthropic and political fields.
The awards were preceded by a thought-provoking seminar on ‘Anatomy of Affordable Healthcare’ which was anchored by Dr Giridhar Gyani, Director General, Association of Healthcare Providers -AHPI (India). The eminent panellists of the seminar included Dr Vijay Agarwal, President, Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organisations (CAHO); Dr Neelam Mohan, Director, Department of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Herpetology Liver Transplant, Medanta Hospital, Gurugram; Jaipur-based Dr S S Aggarwal, Former National President, Indian Medical Association; Dr. Nimesh G. Desai, Director, Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IHBAS), and Dr R K Tuli, Chief Consultant, Holistic Medicine, SOHAM, New Delhi.
The panellists dwelt at length on the challenges confronting healthcare delivery and the steps that need to be taken to make medical services accessible and affordable to the masses. The esteemed panellists were all praise for the Union government’s path-breaking initiative of Ayushman Bharat that promises to bring quality care within the reach of teeming millions, helping in the realisation of the goal of Health for All. The seminar was followed by singing of national anthem presented by the young talent belonging to JD Tytler Learning Centre for Development of Children with Special Needs that left the audience spell-bound.
It was now the time for the lighting of the lamp by Chief Guest Dr C P Thakur, Ex-Union Minister of Health and Guests of Honour Mr Tariq Anwar, senior political leader and Ex-Minister of State for Food Processing, Dr Shamsher Singh Manhas, MP, Rajya Sabha (Jammu & Kashmir); Dr Ramesh K Goyal, Vice Chancellor, Delhi Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research University (DPSRU), and Dr Aruvir Singh, CEO, Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority. Other eminent persons present on the occasion included Dr Suneela Garg, Dir. Professor & Head, Community Medicine, Maulana Azad Medical College & Associated Hospitals New Delhi, Dr Neelam Mohan, and Amresh Kumar Tiwary. Editor-in-Chief, Double Helical.
Subsequently, the school children put up a musical performance that showcased the rich cultural heritage of the country. Now the stage was set for the immaculate award ceremony that honoured deserving doctors, healthcare providers, hospitals, non-governmental organisation (NGOs) and other stakeholders of the country’s health sector for their outstanding contribution to the enhancement of the medical profession and humanitarian work.
The awards were given in various categories including awards for social commitment and sustainable services in housing. The award categories acknowledged the efforts of the who’s who of the Indian healthcare sector for their outstanding achievements in providing the best medical care with a healing touch. While honouring distinguished doctors and allied professionals hailing from all over the country for exemplary commitment, care and compassion for patients, the magazine also felicitated several social work institutions which are involved in a range of patient welfare and philanthropic activities in the service of the disadvantaged and marginalised sections. Also honoured were some prominent real estate developers that are contributing to the health and general wellbeing of people by way of launching eco-friendly, green and sustainable living projects. This initiative to recognize and honour innovation and dedication in healthcare was widely appreciated. The Double Helical award recipients are champion healers whose extraordinary efforts in fulfilling the goals, values, and mission of inclusive healthcare were duly recognized at a credible platform.

No wonder that a Double Helical award has become a mega annual event, keenly-awaited in the healthcare sector of the country.
