Double Helical Takes Strides in Community Well-being
In an initiative aimed at promoting health awareness and providing accessible healthcare, prominent national health magazine Double Helical recently organised a “Free Health Check-Up Camp” at Vaishali in Ghaziabad.
This camp brought together some of the leading doctors from reputable hospitals across the region, extending high-quality medical services to individuals from all walks of life. The event was organised in collaboration with SPARSH, a dedicated non-profit organisation focused on advancing healthcare and educational outreach, particularly for underprivileged children. Together, Double Helical and SPARSH sought to address the community’s health needs by creating a bridge between healthcare providers and local residents, enhancing awareness and early disease detection.
The check-up camp included an impressive range of services, from general health screening to specialist consultations across various fields such as gastroenterology, gynaecology, maternity, nephrology, oncology, radiotherapy, radiology, physiotherapy, and urology. This diversity in services allowed community members to access specialised medical advice and testing without the cost barriers that often prevents individuals from seeking care. The purpose of the camp was twofold: firstly, to emphasise preventive healthcare by encouraging regular check-ups and early diagnosis, and secondly, to provide immediate medical interventions, including referrals for advanced treatments or surgeries when necessary.
A highlight of the event was the presence of esteemed public health leaders like Padma Shri Dr C S Pandav, former HOD of Community Medicine at AIIMS, New Delhi, who, alongside Dr Vinay Aggarwal, CMD of Pushpanjali Medical Centre and former National President of the Indian Medical Association, inaugurated the camp. Both medical stalwarts expressed strong support for the camp’s mission of expanding healthcare accessibility. “Our primary responsibility lies in reaching those who do not have easy access to medical care,” said Dr Pandav, addressing the attendees, many of whom expressed gratitude for the comprehensive range of services available at the event. Dr Aggarwal emphasised the symbolic timing of the camp, noting that it is held annually during Durga Puja to underline the importance of health as a divine gift and to extend the camp’s reach to semi-urban and rural populations who may otherwise be overlooked.
Dr Sachin Bhargav, Senior Child Specialist and Convener of SPARSH, elaborated on the camp’s inclusive approach, stressing that the entire setup, including ECG, diagnostic and blood tests, and consultations, was designed to serve the underprivileged and underserved sections of society, whose access to healthcare remains a critical concern. Volunteers and medical professionals alike reported a highly positive turnout, with a significant number of locals participating and taking advantage of the services.
